Weird Things Schmierd Things

Weird Things Schmierd Things

THE RULES: Each player of this game starts with the '6 weird things about you.' People who get tagged need to write a blog post of their own 6 weird things as well as state this rule clearly. In the end, you need to choose 6 people to be tagged and list their names. Don't forget to leave a comment that says 'you are tagged' in their comments and tell them to read your blog. I got tagged by Funky-Redhead, who is the first person who has ever tagged me! I feel so special! I am more than glad to display my weirdness for all to mock me!

6. When I first started voting, I became a Republican only because my Last Name began with an R. (For those who know me, it was my ex-husband.)
I am now a DEMOCRAT. Because that's what I believe in!!

5. My kitchen has to be clean. I could care less about the other rooms, but my domain must be spotless.

4. When I lived in Denver, the only way I could tell East and West was to look at the mountains, then I knew I was heading west.

3. I can not for the live of me remember names. So if you see me and I don't call you by name....it's because I can't remember.

2. I actually cook all our meals. Most people in Florida seem to only eat out!!
(Does this count???)

1. All beds in my house have to be made.

Not sure if this is weird or not, but all I can think of.

I am going to tag:

Amie

Donna

FatCatPauline

I really only these three!! Sad to say!!!

School in the Perry house

School was okay today. I made a big mistake of having Dylan time me with addition facts.
now he is upset that I did it in 2 minutes 35 seconds. I told him that was not where I should be and I needed practice, but know he is bummed out he's not better. I told him it took me a long time to get at that time.
We started on subtraction again. He justs hate it so much. I even tried showing him how you can check your work with addition. Still hates it. He wants to know who invented it, so he can tell him off!! I really think if he can work on getting his facts down, he'll enjoy it so much more.
Not sure how we can make it more "fun"???
Trina is the tough one, but we managed to get a bit of LA and US History done. I told her she needs to buckle down with school, or she'll be like me....no college and only low paying jobs. She is now reading the book by Michael Bradley, "Yes, your parents are crazy!" She is loving it and keeps telling me why I do what I do. Well, DUH!!!! Maybe coming from someone else.....it might sink in that growing brain of hers!!!
Tomorrow we are off the the Shakespeare Theatre to see "Every Christmas Story Ever Told", I love the Theatre and really only drag the kids so I am not the only adult!! LOL!!! Then in the pm it will be Story of the World. That will probably be it for the day. Oh yeah, Dylan has to make cookies and go caroling with his Boy Scout troop. HMMMMM....not sure when we will squeeze in making cookies, but we must!! I think it will be an easy recipe!!

Dylan's Village and tree

Here is Dylan's village and his tree. They both love to decorate. I must admit I do too!!

Trina's tree and village

I give each of the kids a "table" to put their villages on. They love to decorate it.
Then they each get a mini tree in their rooms. They love putting it up and decorating!!

Jesse Tree

Here are the kids with our Jesse Tree. Isn't it just beautiful? I am not and never will be an artist, but the intent is good. I am truly amazed with how much my children know about our Lord and Savior. They sure do make me proud!!

Advent Wreath

Here is our Advent Wreath. Yes, the candles are crooked. I need to buy candle holders, but no time to do it!!

The Star

Patches had the honor this year of putting the star on our Christmas tree.
It is her first Christmas with us. She was unsure of what was going on!!

Where does the time fly to??

I can't believe that it is already December 5th!!

We are trying very hard to get back into schooling...my gifted daughter is the hardest to convince to do her work. We are going to switch from Saxon Algebra to Abeka Pre Algebra. I hope that this one will work. I didn't like Saxon either, but that could be because I never took Algebra!! I sure do wish that the prices of things were more affordable. I did buy everything used, but it still adds up!!! I told her that she hasn't even really done a full schedule. It takes me all day to just get her to do her two online courses!! I told her things had to change or she was going to fail 8th grade and have to redo it! How do you get your children to do their work? Any magical ideas?? I did take away her voice lessons for today. I just can't see her getting rewarded with something she loves to do, when I can't get her to complete her work!!

Dylan is trying though he HATES Math. I have tried to make it more enjoyable, but it's just something he doesn't like. I am using Scott Foresman which he liked when he went to private school. I was able to buy it before Ebay went nuts with the teacher's editions of textbooks.
I have him doing flashcards everyday which we time him on. He does love to try to beat his previous time. I think once he has all the facts down, math will be a bit more enjoyable!

I have decided to do no out of the house activities starting in January. It seems that if we leave to do one thing, nothing else gets done for the day. Like when we do voice lessons, the afternoon is out. Do you all do things outside the house? Is is a lost day for you??

We have put up our tree, just need to add the tinsel and candy canes. Patches loves to get under it and lay down. I will get pictures for tomorrow.
Weather is actually cool today...which I am enjoying. I finally get to wear a pair of jeans!!

We hope everyone is doing well. Now I need to read everyone's blogs!! I just haven't had time for anything!!

God Bless,
Bunny

I am alive, but sick

I have some friends emailing me wondering where I am.
First, I hope every one had an enjoyable Thanksgiving.
We went away for the week to visit my parents. It was a
relaxing time, but we all got bad colds.
Since we have been back, we are battling schoolwork
while we are not feeling well!! It has taken all my energy
to just do school. I finally am on antibiotics and hope to feel
better soon.
Derby race is this weekend. So we are trying to prepare
for that also.
I am hoping to be back to blogging next week.

Another one of those days

Why do we bother getting up if it's gonna be one of those days...AGAIN!!
I wish there was some way to motivate Katrina. She is so smart, yet doesn't apply herself.
It drives me nuts. Dylan is learning her tricks and becoming a mini Trina!!
It must be all that candy in the house, change of weather, hormones. Just pick one!!

I know it will get better. I just wish it was sooner rather than later!!!

Florida is so easy on their evaluations that they don't count the days. For those of you who keep track of the days....do you count a day even if you only do one subject?? Just curious. Yes, I know curiosity killed the cat.

Speaking of death, Dyl wished me dead today 3 times. All because of me taking away his game systems. I told him it was the devil making him act like that and if we had another day like today, I would give them all away. I really think he is not getting enough sleep and it makes him act up this way. His allergies are kicking in again, he has the black circles under his eyes and they are all puffy. I think tomorrow we will just sleep in until they feel like getting up. I will see if this makes a difference. He just doesn't look like himself. Oh weeellll, life goes on.

I hope everyone is having a better day and has a great weekend. I haven't had much time to even read my daily blogs.....that must be why I feel funky!!!
Love ya all

No School Today

What a busy life we lead. I ran out of dog food, why I bother to try to feed her is beyond me. I think I have tried every brand out there and she won't eat them. Well....she will if you hand feed her....like I have time for that!!
So we went to Wally World and got that, finally bought curtains for one of kat's windows. Man curtains are expensive...if I had more time I would sew my own, but who has the time!!!
I let them both buy a pair of jeans and a long sleeved shirt ;). They loved it, but it took forever to figure out what sizes they were. I turned around once to get my cart and it was gone!!!
We went up and down the isles looking for it and then comes a women with it!! She thought it was hers. She even left her purse in the cart. I told her she should NEVER do that!!!
Silly people.
Then a quick lunch at Wendy's, then Trina's Orthodontist app't, quick supper and off to Religious Education.
Finally home and kids to bed.
Tomorrow I think we can manage to get some work done!! LOL!!
Have a great night.

Where does the day go? Don't forget to vote!!!

I can't believe that I haven't posted since the 2nd. We have been busy. Saturday we had to get up at 4:30 am to drive to the derby race in Ocala. It was a very, very, very, very, very, long day. Patches was such a good puppy. Dylan got a 3rd and 2nd place. Trina got a 4th and 8th place. They are well on their way for the points to make it to the World Championships in Akron, Ohio. We left Ocala at 5:30 and stopped to eat on the way. We left Patches in the truck. I felt so guilty!! When we came out of the restaurant, she was looking out the drivers window. I am sure she did that the whole time!!!! I gave her some leftover chicken nuggets and a bone from the baby back ribs. She loved them, then slept till we got home!! I couldn't of asked for a better puppy.
Sunday is always a very lazy day after the derby. Everyone is tired. I was especially tired this time and didn't even go to church!! SIN, SIN, SIN!!
Monday was not a good day. My kids can't even get out of bed without whining about the school day, picking on each other. I asked them both to do a chore before school and they were nasty about it. Needless to say, I lost my patience and told them that if they didn't start helping out more that I would take their Christmas money and give it to the children who have nothing. At least they deserve it and would appreciate it. They finally did the chores I asked of them.
Dylan is having trouble with the whole mental math thing. I really think it is because he doesn't know his math facts. So I am going to buy a stop watch and try to time him. Maybe when he sees that he is improving it will help him. He is also competitive, so maybe I will do it with Trina and myself!! He loves to beat MOM and Sister!!!
We have been playing UNO Attack. They both love it. It does teach math, cuz at the end you have to add your card totals and give the number to the person who goes out. You play until someone reaches 500 points. I won the first game. They both want to finish their school work so we can play again!!
I went to the polls at 8 and was in and out quickly!! Was a great time to go.
Today is Trina's voice lessons and Dylan has scouts tonight. I am having a dinner with my mom's group. I was told to dress up.....what's that?? LOL!! I really don't have much to choose from....oh well.
Hope everyones day is going well.
Give your kids a hug and kiss.....it seems to help me!!!

Here is Dylan's Ziggurat from Ancient Egypt. I am really pleased with his work!! Posted by Picasa

I didn't know that Katrina could be so ugly!! I sure don't want to meet this devil!!
they had fun trick or treating. Posted by Picasa

Do we need all this candy???

November 2, 2006

The picture above is why I dislike Halloween!! Way tooo much candy!!! Then it's a fight not to have too much in one sitting. Look you can see my cleaning bottle in the background. I need to start looking in the background before I take pictures!!!
This week has been busy. I can't believe it is already November!!!! It has been hard to motivate the kids to do their work. Dylan wakes up only wanting a half day and Trina just doesn't want to do it!!!! Dylan does okay once he gets going. I try to do Math, Reading, Phonics everyday. The rest will get done. It's hard to move on when they don't understand what we are doing!! Then I feel like we are so far behind!!
I try to start Math out with a game. We have card, dice and board games for Math. He really likes starting out that way.
I feel we will get to it all eventually. Life is too short, we have to have fun learning!! Posted by Picasa

Story of The World

Here Dylan and Woody are finishing up their Pharaoh masks. We did it for SOTW and for Boy Scouts!! I love how you can do something and it counts for more than one thing!! Posted by Picasa

Shakespeare Theatre

Friday was a busy day for us. We went to the Shakespeare Theatre again, but this time to see "Miss Nelson Takes a Field Trip". I have never laughed so much in my life. The actors were awesome. Katrina didn't like it, but I loved it!!!!
Then it was home and I helped katrina by printing stuff for her. I feel it was too much information for her to weed through, so I printed a couple of choices and let her choose.
Then I dropped them and my dog at my parents. It was an 1 1/2 drive for us, but it was worth it. They watched the kids and dog so we could go to my hubby's bosses party. I even went shopping for new clothes!! It took me 3 hours to buy 1 pair of jeans, 2 tops, a belt and new shoes. I haven't shopped for myself in years and had no idea about fashion!! Also I have lost 2 dress sizes (only 10 pounds), and didn't know what would fit. I still can't believe it was 2 sizes smaller!!!

School day was tough today. The kids were still tired from Grammy's and Grampa's. That's my story and I am sticking to it!!! Dylan woke up wanting a half day of school. Katrina woke me up at 7 and wanted to know why I wasn't awake!! Usually it's me trying to get her up.....but I at least wait till 8 am!!! LOL!!!

Dylan did okay once i wouldn't let him cry his way out of work. He does it and does it well, just the motivating him to do it is tough!!

It's late and I want to watch my Criminal Minds from last week.....Hope everyone is healthy and fine.

Frankenstein and the Orlando Art Museum

Today was our field trip day. Katrina went with a pre-teen group to see the one man play called
Frankenstein, The Modern Prometheus
By Jim Helsinger From the novel by Mary Shelley Here is the link so you can see some pictures. http://www.shakespearefest.org/Frankenstein%2006.htm
She was in the front row and enjoyed herself. I will ask her to post on her blog a review about it.

While she was enjoying her show, Dylan and I went across the parking lot to the Orlando Art Museum. We were able to see some original Claude Monet paintings!!! It was truly wonderful. Dylan actually enjoyed having time with me without Katrina!! Here is the art museum link to see some art!! http://www.omart.org/art/art.current.html

Then it was a mad dash to pick up supplies for SOTW and lunch!! We made it home before Susan and Woody came over. We studied about Hammurabi and made Ziggurats. We also worked on the Egyptian Pharioh masks for SOTW and for Boy Scouts!!

I don't quite know how to get the photos down here!!!

Tomorrow we are going to the Shakespeare Theatre to see "Miss Nelson takes a Field Trip."

Both kids still have the runny, stuffy, full of snot noses and a cough. Dave is now feeling bad. His colds always go to his chest. I am sure it's from the asthma. I made him use his breathing machine. He hates it cuz the medicine makes him jittery. I think it helps him, but he says not.

Me...still healthy. Must be those 2 beers I have each night!! LOL!!!

Hope all is going well for everyone.

Butterfly emerges

October 23, 2006

Here is a picture of one of our butterflies. We have a total of 9 caterpillars that have cocooned. So far two butterflies have hatched. It is so cool. They are Swallowtails. We have fun checking each day to see if any have hatched.
Both kids are sick with bad colds. Dylan took the day off on Friday. He was so sick he didn't even race in the derby!!
Katrina raced and got a 2nd and 4th place. She will tell you all about it in her blog. She was sick Sunday and today. They both did a little bit of school work today.
Finally the weather has turned cooler. Too bad the kids are sick and can't be outside enjoying it!! Oh well.

Dylan and I played a fun bingo game with nouns. It had singular, possesive, and Proper nouns. I let him use Skittles for the markers and he loved playing it! He is doing well with reading. Phonics Pathway sure is helping him out with learning the phonics of words. I am taking their advice and not doing a spelling test till he is halfway through it. I still make him write the words, do a word find, and other spelling activities, just not the test! We are plugging away at math. Today was mental math. He just doesn't get it. He asked me why he had to do mental math when he knows the answer!! Good question!!
I made them both a lapbook for Thanksgiving. It is way too cool!! It took me awhile to figure out some of the folds. I had to cut and glue alot!! But it is so awesome, I can't wait for them to start on it. I found the group through a Yahoo group. It is called Live and Learn Press. Check it out! You'll be glad you did.

Katrina is doing Saxon Algebra and doesn't like it. We haven't even really started Science. Oh well, there's always next week. She is doing well in her online course for Language Arts. Her US History online is so cool. This assignment she has to make a dictionary for every letter of the alphabet, but it must pertain to the American Revolution. They gave her 7 websites to visit. She is doing it in a cool powerpoint presentation.

I guess that's enough rambling for tonight!! Posted by Picasa

Model Glacier

Here we are trying an experiment about Glaciers. It didn't work out at all!! I was suppose to put the sand in a plastic tray. Which of course I don't have.
Maybe it did work, I don't have the teachers edition, so I am honestly not sure what it was to do!!

We froze pebbles and rocks in a small milk carton. Barely covering them with water. (Mistake number one, we filled it with water!)
Freeze overnight, fill tray with sand, push ice blodk across sand. Tell about the path made by the ice.

Well, it just moved the sand and left some pebbles in the sand.

Not sure!!! LOL!! We will figure it out eventurally!!! Posted by Picasa

Experiment in Flooding

Here Dylan is doing an experiment for Science. We filled a cup half full of sand, and another cup with the same amount of water. Dylan marked the cup with sand where he thought the top of the water would be. He then poured the water into the sand. His guess was way off, but he had fun doing it. He understood what he needed to!! Makes you happy when you think they aren't understanding and then when you question them, they do KNOW IT!! Posted by Picasa

Pyramids

We have been studying Ancient Egypt in SOTW and MOH. I found this 500 piece puzzle of the pyramids in Egypt. We had fun doing this with our lessons. WoW!! My background is messy!!! Posted by Picasa

Columbus Day Late

Here Dylan is with his Columbus sheet. He colored according to the instructions, I helped him cut out the path. He colored the boat and sailed it from Spain to the New World.

I always have all these wonderful ideas of things to do, but never enough time to do them all!! Posted by Picasa

Busy, Busy, busy and getting nothing done!!

Since Wednesday, we have had a guitar lesson for Dyl, completed chapter 5 in SOTW. They made a cyclinder seal. Did a little bit of school work and took today off. Dyl did, Trin had to complete her Colonial Newspaper for US HIstory. She is so funny. This is one course she does online and she asked me what I would have graded her. I told her an 80. She got mad!! I told her she needed more detail. We shall see what her teacher gives her.

Everyone is going camping tomorrow at the boy scout camp. Mom is staying home to scrapbook and watch movies!! I am so excited and can hardly wait!!

The kids have made their own blogs, but haven't blogged in it yet.
Trina's is http://derbyqueen.blogspot.com

Dyl's is http://w2bderbyking.blogspot.com

They should be blogging next week. I am going to try to make it part of their schoolwork each day. More fun than writing in a notebook. Thanks for the idea Funky Redhead!! You Rock!!

Have a great weekend. I know I am going to!!

Carrot Mummification

Here Dylan is with his carrot. It has been in the mummification process since last Thursday, October 5, 2006. It is very soft, brown and very, very wrinkly. We took out all of the old salt and put in new salt. The old salt was stuck together. I believe it is taking the moisture out of the carrot. I could be wrong and I will have no hard feelings if you want to correct me.

Here is Katrina's carrot. She is making a face at the carrot and both of them were afraid to touch it!!

Today was Katrina's last day of guitar lessons. We are not sure if we will continue on. I feel that if they don't practice, they really don't want to learn. Of course, they come up with every excuse they can. I have to PUSH to get school work done, I am NO WAY pushing for them to practice. She wants to take voice lessons and they start next week.

Not much going on today. Hope everyone is doing well!!

Monday, October 9, 2006

We got home late yesterday afternoon from visiting my parents. We had such a peaceful visit. It is always so quiet and country. I know why I am such a country girl!!
We did not do any school work today. I was hoping to do some fun stuff about Christopher Columbus, but instead helped out a friend.

I am hoping tomorrow to have a good school day!!

I know that not to many people read my blogs, but please take the time to answer my few questions.

What subjects do you do daily?
I try to do Math, Language Arts, Spelling, Religion and writing.
History is SOTW on Thursdays, Science we try to read and do experiments at least twice a week. MOH I try to do at least twice a week.

Do you feel guilty if you don't get to them all?
Yes, terribly.

What's your fear about homeschooling?
My children aren't working and learning to their potential.

Do your children know their math facts? Can they do flashcards quickly?
Katrina definitely yes.
Dylan NO WAY!!!! Not even close.

Any questions you can think of??

Thanks for taking the time to answer!!

Here's to a wonderful night and a sunny tomorrow.

Story of the World 10-05-2006

Today was our History Co-op with our friends Woody and his mom Susan. Susan hosted todays class and she is helping the kids mummify their carrots. SOTW wants you to mummify a whole chicken, but I am not up to that task!! Especially in hot, hot, hot Florida!! Katrina and I have done the carrot before and it is pretty cool.
As you can probably quess, we are learning about mummies, the process of mummification (is there such a word??) and the Pyramids. It was a fun class, then it was off to Dylan's guitar lessons. Not much school work done except History and Music. It was a fun day.
Tomorrow we will have to work hard to make up for what we didn't do today!!
I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!!
Love,
Bunny
